“Filesharing is sharing of files“.Majority of us like to share what we have and strive to get more.From the earliest trace of mankind,man have been sharing what they have and have been moving forward.With the advancement of technology sharing entered a new era,”Digital sharing”.1s and 0s got transferred from one computer to another.Then along the path of development came the concept “optimisation of bandwidth usage”.Research lead to the birth of a new baby “Bit-Torrent” who has grown so big in a short amount of time.Bit-Torrent revolutionised the whole concept of sharing into a whole new level where sharing got transformed into “True sharing”.”Share what you get” became the new motto.
Many trackers and indexers sprang up like flowers blooming in the spring.Anyone could share anything he/she wanted because bandwidth and speed was not a problem as there are others to share that burden.Then slowly the other face started to show up.If the file is not seeded by downloaders then the burden gets higher and higher for those who are seeding as downloaders increased.Hit and runners became rampant,virus and trojans started to circulate.But even with these negative effects,sharing continued to grow.When it grew and reached the peak,new laws came into being and “Intellectual property” was born.File sharers were hunted down and trackers closed down.Still sharing continued…
Through this dark age sprang a new concept “Community”.Just like the circle of friends in real life,In Digital world communities started to form.When Community was merged with tracker,a brilliant evolution took place and paved way to exceptional high speed downloads,trusted and safe,above all we knew that we are “sharing” and it was “free” and was accessible only to good members who belonged to the community.
Human nature of comparision started to sprout in this innocent land and trackers were compared and rated.Trackers competed and the era of dog fights unveiled and pre time wars became rampant.Stakes rose,requirements rose and in the grand scheme of evolution trackers started to make new laws and strict rules to follow for the members.
Filesharers are pushed to their limit and just like in any war,new weapons were invented and discovered.Currently the power equivalent of nuclear weaponry in real world is seedbox in the torrent world.High data transfers and 24/7 uptime.Even though seedbox helps leechers in attaining high speeds and the seeder attain high buffer and is helping the sharing process(is he?) the rules and laws made the leechers enter a situation where they have entered the eden garden where all apples are forbidden to eat as they had nothing to seed back and the rules had to be followed to maintain 1:1 ratio.
While things were shapping the way it is now,the “Sharers” forgot that the majority of world population had crap internet connection and they were being pushed aside and the word “free” became a thing of the past.If you to need what you want,you need to shell out $$.So…
As we have seen the birth and evolution of “Digital Sharing”,and the ethics and the purpose it once held,Many of the questions come to my mind and one particular question or concern I would like to ask is.”Isint it time we reworked the concept of “file sharing” and transformed it into “actual sharing” or does filesharing now belong to certain “elites” ?
